Prayagraj: Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) has intensified its efforts to accelerate house tax collection in the current financial year, with the corporation implementing a new strategy aimed at improving transparency and accountability in the recovery process. As part of the move, the civic body set a daily collection target of Rs 1 crore for each zone and made it mandatory for staff engaged in tax recovery to share their live location while on duty. Officials said the new system will allow seniors to track the movement of employees and verify whether they are actively visiting localities to collect house tax from property owners. According to the civic administration, the measure is expected to streamline the recovery process and ensure better monitoring. The PMC had fixed a house tax collection target of Rs 150 crore for the ongoing financial year. So far, the civic body has collected over Rs 100 crore, and officials said efforts are being intensified to recover the remaining amount before the financial year ends. To strengthen the drive, the corporation also constituted special teams in all zones. Each zone was assigned a 17-member team tasked with door-to-door outreach. Chief tax assessment officer, Sanjay Mamgai, said the campaign involves eight tax superintendents, 17 inspectors and 89 outsourced employees. The new system was implemented from Mar 7. The corporation clarified that live location sharing is mandatory for all staff involved in the drive. Employees must send their location through their mobile phones in a designated group so that officials can monitor their field activity. “The step is not meant to pressure employees but to make the collection process more transparent, efficient and result-oriented,” said Mamgai.
