Srinagar, Sep 26: PDP spokesperson and Chanapora constituency in-charge Mohammad Iqbal Tramboo and senior party leader and Habba Kadal constituency in-charge Arif Laigaroo joined the ongoing protest by J&K vocational trainers in Srinagar on Saturday and expressed support for their demands.
The three-day protest, organised by the J&K Vocational Trainers Welfare Association (JKVTWA), began on September 24 and concluded on September 26. The trainers are seeking a comprehensive job policy, continuity and protection of services, settlement of pending salary and service-related issues, and a review of the existing Vocational Training Partner (VTP) arrangement.
Tramboo said vocational trainers who have served in government schools for nearly a decade should not be left in uncertainty and urged the government to take a concrete policy decision on their demands.
Laigaroo said the trainers have contributed to vocational and practical education in government schools since the programme was introduced in J&K in 2016. He called for recognition of their service and a clearly defined employment framework.
The PDP leaders urged the government to engage with the protesting trainers and address their grievances through a time-bound mechanism.
They also said strengthening vocational education would require addressing the concerns of those delivering the programme and ensuring greater certainty regarding their professional future.
