Patna: A 17-year-old engineering aspirant from Araria district died under mysterious circumstances in Kota, Rajasthan, after she was found critically injured beneath the Vigyan Nagar flyover on Saturday night. Moments before her death, the teenager made a heart-rending phone call from the hospital to her father, crying, “Papa, save me. I’m dying. My body is in terrible pain.”The deceased, Jaya Shree, was a resident of Ward No. 16 (Panjiyar Tola) in Araria’s Raniganj Nagar panchayat. After securing good marks in her Class X examinations, she had moved to Kota six months ago to prepare for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and was studying at a coaching institute.According to her father, Yogesh Panjiyar, he spoke to Jaya around 9pm on Saturday as part of their daily routine. She sounded cheerful, spoke about her classes and told him she was going to the mess for dinner before calling her mother later that night.When the expected call never came, her mother became anxious and repeatedly tried to contact her, but the calls went unanswered. The family also requested a girl staying near Jaya’s accommodation to check on her.Around 11pm, the family received a call from an unknown person informing them that Jaya had been found in a critical condition beneath the Vigyan Nagar flyover and was being taken to a hospital. The caller also informed them that the local police had been alerted.Shortly afterwards, the father received another call from the same number. This time, Jaya herself was on the line. Barely able to speak and crying in pain, she repeatedly pleaded with her father to save her. Before he could ask what had happened, a hospital staff member took the phone and asked her to rest.About half-an-hour later, the family was informed that Jaya had succumbed to her injuries. The news shattered the family, who had been preparing to leave for Kota. Yogesh said he still has no idea how his daughter sustained the injuries or how she reached the hospital. He added that only the police investigation would reveal the truth.Jaya was the eldest of four siblings, with two younger sisters and a brother. The circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear and the family is awaiting answers from the authorities in Kota.According to locals, Jaya’s father and other family members left for Kota at around 4am. Her mother, who remained at home, was unaware that her daughter had died.
