Hyderabad: AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday accused the BJP-led central govt of supporting organisations that allegedly speak against the Constitution and target Muslims, while also demanding clarity from Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the reported sinking of an Iranian warship by US forces.Addressing a Jalsa-e-Youm-ul-Quran meeting at a mosque in Talab Katta in the Old City, Owaisi alleged that the Centre had given ₹63 lakh to an organisation he identified as ‘Sanatan Samstha’ for a programme attended by Union and state ministers. “The speeches at the event included calls to do away with the present form of the Constitution, convert Muslims, and transform India into a ‘Hindu rashtra’. The participants reportedly spoke of deporting Muslims. They also discussed that fear of the govt should be instilled in the community so that they quit Islam,” Owaisi alleged. He criticised the use of public funds for such programmes, saying the govt claimed it lacked money for welfare schemes like mid-day meals. Referring to allegations against the organisation, Owaisi said no power in the world could remove Muslims from Hindustan and stressed that the rule of law must prevail. The Hyderabad MP also targeted the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, alleging that they frequently raise anti-Muslim issues but remain silent on former US President Donald Trump. Owaisi further questioned the circumstances surrounding the reported torpedoing of the Iranian frigate ‘IRIS Dena’ by US forces near Sri Lanka after it had earlier docked at Visakhapatnam. ‘Onus is on PM’“It is the PM’s constitutional responsibility to inform the country what happened. We are with America in the QUAD. How did the US come so close to our country and sink that vessel that had no weapons, and which came on our invitation?” he asked. He said the PM should address the nation and work to de-escalate tensions in West Asia as millions of Indian expatriates in Gulf countries could be affected by any escalation.
