Guwahati: ONGC has pledged Rs 25 crore for Assam’s flood recovery and rebuilding of over 700 damaged schools.Of the total, Rs 5 crore will go to CM’s Relief Fund and Rs 20 crore towards school reconstruction, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Thursday.State govt said ONGC’s aid would provide nearly Rs 3 lakh for each affected school, in addition to the Rs 2 lakh being provided by govt.The funds will help restore classrooms, furniture, learning materials and other infrastructure damaged in the latest floods.Sarma thanked ONGC chairperson and CEO Arun Kumar Singh and the company’s employees for supporting the state’s recovery efforts.“ONGC’s bond with Assam is one of trust and partnership, built over decades of shared progress,” Sarma said in a post on ‘X’.The Rs 5-crore contribution will support relief, rehabilitation and restoration in flood-hit areas.Large parts of Assam, particularly upper Assam, have suffered extensive damage to homes, roads, public infrastructure and agricultural land. Hundreds of schools have also been affected, disrupting education across the state.Govt is assessing the damage as floodwaters recede and planning repairs and reconstruction. ONGC’s assistance is expected to help restore basic infrastructure and enable students to return to functional classrooms.
