On Kargil Vijay Diwas, leaders pay tribute to soldiers | Mysuru News

Madikeri/ Mysuru: Kargil Vijay Diwas was commemorated on Sunday at Madikeri’s War Memorial, where tributes were paid to soldiers who laid down their lives in the 1999 Kargil War. The memorial was adorned with flowers, and dignitaries, ex-servicemen and social activists paid floral tributes to the martyrs. The programme was organised by Bajrang Dal and Hindu Jagarana Vedike.Addressing the gathering, social activist Dhananjaya Agolikaje said Indian soldiers safeguard the nation at great personal risk, enabling citizens to live in peace. He said the country should always remember the sacrifices of its armed forces, recalling that 527 soldiers were martyred and hundreds injured or permanently disabled during the Kargil conflict.

Retired Major Kushwant Kolibailu said Kodagu is known as a land of warriors and highlighted the courage displayed by Indian soldiers in recapturing enemy-held positions in Kargil. He stressed the need to educate the younger generation about patriotism and the country’s rich military heritage.Among those present were Hindu Jagarana Vedike leader Kukkera Ajith, Vishwa Hindu Parishad president Pudiokkada Ramesh, Bajrang Dal district coordinator Vinay, Madikeri City Municipal Council vice-president Mahesh Jaini, Madikeri BJP city president Umesh Subramani, retired servicemen and leaders of various organisations.Meanwhile, Madikeri Nagar Ex-Servicemen Association members paid tribute to the martyrs of the Kargil war at the Amar Jawan Memorial at the General Thimayya Memorial Hall. At a programme led by association president Panikuttira Kuttappa, Army Canteen senior manager and retired Lieutenant Colonel Mullera Kaveriappa, retired Colonel Chondamma, programme coordinator PK Kuttappa, KP Muthanna and other office-bearers and members offered floral tributes to the fallen soldiers.In Mysuru, Kargil Vijay Diwas was observed at Field Marshal Cariappa Circle. A bike rally organised as part of the celebrations was flagged off by JD(S) MLC C.N Manjegowda and former MLA MK Somashekar. Students also took part in the event.
