Madikeri: The forest department conducted a rescue operation to drive a herd of wild elephants straying into coffee plantations back to forest areas in Kodagu district.The operation was carried out in and around Chettalli, Irale Velamudi, Cherala, Horuru, Moduru and Mathi forest areas under the jurisdiction of the Kushalnagar forest range following reports of elephant movement in plantations. According to forest officials, a herd of elephants had strayed from the forest and was moving between coffee estates in search of food. During the operation, officials identified more than six elephants, including a calf. Despite heavy rain, the operation team entered the coffee plantations and successfully guided the elephants back into the forest. Drone cameras were used to track the movement of the herd and monitor the operation.
