Noida:The Arun Vihar Residents Welfare Association (AVRWA), in collaboration with the Noida authority, has started preparations to roll out a four-bin waste management system from Wednesday.

The RWA also started conducting workshops across parks and community spaces to sensitise residents, domestic workers and sanitation staff about source-level segregation from Monday.
Arun Vihar, comprising Sectors 28, 29 and 37, has around 5,000 flats and an estimated population of 25,000. Although door-to-door waste collection exists, residents alleged that segregated waste was often mixed during collection.
“Segregated waste at household level was getting mixed. Most of it was being sent to dumping sites, increasing the landfill burden,” said Prashant Gupta, chairman, AVRWA.
“We were separating waste at home, but it all got mixed later, defeating the entire purpose,” said Surendar Verma, a resident.
Gupta said the focus is on making segregation a civic responsibility. “Wet waste will be composted within each ward. We plan to install 26 composting units with an aim to create a model system that can be replicated across other sectors in Noida,” he added.
Households will be required to segregate waste into four categories: wet waste, dry recyclable waste, sanitary waste and domestic hazardous waste, each to be disposed of in separate bins, said the association, warning of penalties in case of non-compliance.
RWA representatives said awareness sessions and training for residents and staff are ongoing, and the system will be implemented in phases over the coming days.
