Jamshedpur: A two-day national seminar on “Women’s Education and Values: Tradition, Transformation and Vision for the Future” began at National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur on Wednesday.Around 150 women academicians, experts and social workers from 13 states are attending the event. The deliberations focus on women’s education and leadership, the Indian perspective, social transformation, historical and contemporary perspectives, and future challenges.Addressing the inaugural session, NIT Director Gautam Sutradhar said women have a crucial role in building a developed and empowered nation. He said providing equal opportunities to women is important, but it is equally necessary to create an environment that enables them to take up leadership roles through education, technical knowledge and appropriate platforms.Asha Lakda, member of National Commission for Scheduled Tribes, said tribal women possess immense leadership potential and that their talent, traditional knowledge and experience must be provided suitable opportunities and platforms. She also emphasised the need to accord special priority to the education of tribal women.NIT media in charge Ratnesh Kumar Mishra said the seminar will feature four sessions covering diverse dimensions of women’s education.
