Bokaro: A sub-inspector (SI) posted with the Giridih cyber police station, Punit Kumar Gautam, was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday while allegedly accepting a Rs 30,000 bribe from complainant Jiwalal Mandal, ACB officials said.Mandal had filed a written complaint with the ACB in September, alleging that Punit Kumar Gautam demanded money to send the case diary of a case, in which Mandal’s son is an accused, registered at the Giridih cyber police station in February to court.“Prima facie, the allegations were found to be true. Accused Gautam is a sub-inspector but had been vested with the powers of an inspector. He had initially demanded Rs 2 lakh from the complainant, which was later negotiated down to Rs 35,000. However, Mandal could arrange only Rs 30,000. When he was handing over the money to Gautam, the ACB team caught Gautam red-handed. Gautam was taken into ACB custody for questioning and further legal proceedings,” said Binod Kumar, additional superintendent of police (ASP) of ACB, Dhanbad.
