KOLKATA/KANCHRAPARA: The family of former Indian Railway Minister Mukul Roy is anxiously searching for his daughter-in-law, Sarmistha Bhowmik Roy, 43, who has been missing in Nepal since Wednesday following a devastating flash flood in the Bhotekoshi River along the Nepal-China border.Her family members have also been desperately trying to reach her, but repeated calls have gone unanswered while more than 24 hours have passed since the disaster struck Nepal.Her husband, former Bijpur MLA Subhranshu Roy, has already left for Nepal on Wednesday evening.Sarmistha, wife of former Bijpur MLA Subhranshu Roy, is a resident of Ghatak Road a Kanchrapara, North 24-Parganas.According to her family sources, she travelled to Nepal on August 21 as part of a tour organised by a travel agency. She was travelling with members of her parental family.“She last spoke to her husband on the night of August 25. Since then, the family has been unable to establish contact with her,” a relative of the Roy family said.The flash flood in the Bhotekoshi River severely affected several villages, while cloudbursts, landslides and flooding in different parts of Nepal have disrupted roads and communication networks, raising concerns over the safety of tourists and residents.Before leaving their Kanchrapara home for Nepal, Subhranshu Roy said he was deeply worried about his wife and other family members who had accompanied her.“Since receiving reports of the devastating natural disaster in Nepal, I have been unable to contact her. She left for Nepal on August 21 with several members of her parental family. We have not been able to contact anyone, including my wife. We are extremely anxious and hope the administration will take immediate steps,” he said.Sources said Subhranshu Roy rushed to Nepal on Wednesday evening to search for his wife and ascertain her whereabouts.
