New Delhi: Days after a 28-year-old man was allegedly electrocuted after coming in contact with a pole in east Delhi’s Anand Vihar, police Saturday said they had registered a case of negligence. Section 289 of the BNS, which deals with negligent conduct with respect to machinery, has been invoked. Investigators will approach the agencies concerned to seek details about the ownership and maintenance of the pole.The deceased, Sandeep, was a caretaker in a nearby colony and was walking home when he allegedly came in contact with the lamppost on a divider on Somnath Marg around 8 pm Wednesday.Sandeep was the breadwinner of his family. Orphaned when he was just six months old, he was raised by his aunt and uncle in a small one-room flat in Shahdara’s Bihari Colony. His aunt and uncle had worked as contractual employees before retiring due to health issues.His uncle, Sunderlal, said Sandeep would leave for work in the morning and usually return around 8.30 pm. When he was late on Wednesday, Sunderlal’s wife, Kishanpyari, called him but someone else answered the phone. The phone was later switched off, she told the media. The family learnt about the incident and spent around two hours searching for Sandeep on the streets, but could not trace him. “We wanted to start looking for a bride after Raksha Bandhan. I loved him like a son,” said Kishanpyari.Police found Sandeep’s body around 7 am Thursday. A postmortem examination confirmed electrocution as the cause of death.
