Srinagar, Oct 23 : The National Conference on Friday said its patron Dr Farooq Abdullah’s visit to Baramulla is part of an ongoing district-level organisational programme and should not be viewed as being centred around any individual, amid speculation over the proposed joining of certain persons.

Party sources informed news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) the programme is aimed at strengthening the NC’s grassroots network and bringing together elected representatives from all six Assembly constituencies in Baramulla district, constituency in-charges from seven constituencies, senior leaders, office-bearers and party workers.

Clarifying the purpose of the visit, the party said the initiative was an official organisational exercise and not centred on any individual.

The clarification comes amid speculation over the proposed entry of certain individuals into the NC. The party said they had submitted written requests expressing their desire to join, and the matter was under consideration.

Any decision on their entry would be taken by the competent party leadership in accordance with established procedures, the sources said.

The NC reiterated its commitment to collective leadership and organisational principles, saying the programme reflected its broader efforts to strengthen the party structure in Baramulla district and work in the interests of the people. (KNS)
