HYDERABAD: After weeks of preparation, Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS), Sanathnagar, is set to begin surgical services in phases, marking a major expansion of its healthcare offerings and bringing relief to thousands of patients waiting for procedures at overcrowded govt hospitals.

The rollout follows the completion of sterilisation of operation theatres and intensive care units, as well as the appointment of doctors and other medical staff. Though inaugurated only in Aug, the hospital is already recording around 600 outpatient visits daily and is now preparing to extend services to include surgeries and advanced inpatient care.Constructed at a cost of 1,126 crore on a 53-acre campus, TIMS Sanathnagar has a capacity of 1,082 beds, including 300 ICU beds and 31 major operation theatres, making it one of the largest govt healthcare facilities in the state.Dr A Narendra, director of TIMS, said the hospital would be able to handle a larger number of cases once surgical services become fully operational. “This will help reduce the burden on existing tertiary care facilities and improve access to timely treatment,” he said. The phased rollout will enable the hospital to gradually increase the number of surgeries as operation theatres, clinical teams and support services become fully functional. The availability of additional operating theatres and ICU beds is also expected to improve access for patients requiring complex procedures and intensive post-operative care.
