Kanpur: Special chief judicial magistrate (Economic Offences) on Friday issued non-bailable warrants against a steel firm and its directors in a Rs 6.68 crore tax evasion case. The directors named in the case are Yogesh Agarwal, Mukul Agarwal, Kapil and Laxmikant Goel. Proceedings against one of the directors, Mukesh Agarwal, were earlier abated following his death during the trial.According to Ambarish Tandon, special prosecutor for the GST department, a tax evasion case against the firm, Rimjhim Ispat East Company, was filed in 2014. The department subsequently imposed a penalty of Rs 6,68,94,028 on the company. The company and its directors challenged the penalty and filed a discharge application. However, the application was dismissed by the CJM court in Kanpur, following which the accused were summoned.Aggrieved by the order, the accused filed a criminal revision petition in the Allahabad high court, which was rejected. The company then approached the Supreme Court. In 2025, the apex court also upheld the high court’s order and remitted the matter to the trial court. The trial court received the case file on July 29, 2026, and passed an order directing the prosecution and the accused to appear before the court on Aug 20, 2026.The special prosecutor submitted that the accused were fully aware of the outcome of the criminal revision petition and the court’s directions, yet failed to appear before the court. In her order, presiding judge Sudesh Kumari observed that since the accused had neither sought bail nor appeared on the scheduled date, non-bailable warrants were issued against them.
