Varanasi: A two-day national policy dialogue titled “Repurposing Rice Policies for Sustainable and Resilient Systems in India: Lessons and Priorities”, organised by the IRRI South Asia Regional Centre (ISARC), in collaboration with the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER), was inaugurated on Saturday. Delivering the keynote address, Ashok Gulati, professor at ICRIER, highlighted the importance of repurposing rice policies to support sustainable and resilient rice systems in India. He noted that India’s strong position as a leading rice producer and exporter provided opportunities to adopt innovative policy approaches that promote efficient resource use, crop diversification, and environmentally sustainable farming practices.The inaugural session was attended by distinguished dignitaries, including K V Raju, Economic advisor to the UP chief minister, Ravinder, principal secretary, agriculture, Rajbir Singh, deputy director general – agricultural extension, ICAR, Prof Baldev Raj Kamboj, VC, Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, and others.
