Nagpur: Even as more than 100 Nagpur residents returned home from flood-hit Nepal on Sunday following days of uncertainty, Satish Patankar (68), an alumnus of VNIT, and his wife Rekha (64) are still missing.According to their relative Sanjay Patankar, the couple left Nagpur on Aug 23 as part of a Mansarovar Yatra and were scheduled to cross the Nepal-Tibet border on Aug 26. The last communication from the couple came through a WhatsApp message on Aug 25, when they informed family members that they were safe.The couple was travelling as part of a group of more than 60 people. Sanjay said some members of the group managed to send messages from the Gyirong Immigration Facility on Aug 26. However, communication subsequently broke down amid the natural calamity.The Gyirong Immigration Facility is located in the area worst hit by the flood. “We have not been able to establish contact with them since then. Out of the 60-plus people in the group, not even one has been found so far,” Sanjay said.The family registered the couple as missing on Maharashtra govt’s portal on Aug 27 and has since been in regular contact with govt officials. The Patankars were accompanied by Anand Deshpande and his wife from Mumbai, and Dr Milind Chitale and Jahnavi Chitale. The three couples were old friends. The other two couples are also missing.
