NAGPUR: A 33-year-old man was allegedly murdered by his friend and wife, who then tried to pass off the killing as an accident in Maharashtra’s Nagpur, police said on Sunday.The victim, Sudhir Mahendraprasad Dwivedi, a resident of Gajanan Nagar, was found dead on a roadside on the morning of August 10, according to news agency PTI.Following the discovery of the body, police initially registered a case of accidental death, an official from MIDC police station said.“The post-mortem report showed that Sudhir had died an unnatural death. A probe revealed that his wife Pooja was allegedly having an affair with his friend Ashishkumar Nareshkumar Agnihotri,” he said.Investigators found that Sudhir and Ashishkumar, both employed in private companies, were close friends. Ashishkumar frequently visited Sudhir’s home. While Sudhir suspected his wife of being involved in an extramarital relationship, he was allegedly unaware of his friend’s involvement, police said.According to the investigation, the accused allegedly got Sudhir drunk on the night of August 9 before attacking him with an iron rod and strangling him with a dupatta. They then dumped his body on the roadside in an attempt to conceal the crime.“A liquor bottle was left at the spot to make the death look like an accident,” he said.Police have registered a case against Ashishkumar and Pooja. Ashishkumar has been arrested, while further investigation is underway, the official added.
