Nagpur: Incessant rain may continue to drench Nagpur, with IMD placing the district under an Orange Alert for Thursday and forecasting isolated spells of heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. The alert also covers Amravati, Bhandara and Gadchiroli districts.According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Nagpur received 49.2mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending Wednesday evening. Steady showers and overcast skies kept temperatures well below normal, with the maximum temperature dropping 5.2°C below normal to 25.6°C. The minimum temperature settled at 22°C.Heavy rainfall was recorded at isolated places across Vidarbha during the 24 hours ending 5.30pm on Wednesday. Korchi in Gadchiroli district received the highest rainfall at 105.1mm, followed by Dhanora with 97mm. Bramhapuri recorded 50.2mm, Chandrapur 50mm, and Akola 45.9mm, indicating widespread monsoon activity across eastern Vidarbha.Across the region, maximum temperatures ranged between 24.4°C and 27°C at most observatories, remaining significantly below normal due to persistent cloud cover and rain.The weather office attributed the widespread showers to a combination of favourable monsoon systems, including an upper-air cyclonic circulation over central parts of north Madhya Pradesh, an active monsoon trough stretching across central India, and a persistent east-west shear zone in the upper atmosphere.The RMC said maximum temperatures are not expected to witness any significant change over the next two days. Thereafter, mercury levels may rise by 2°C to 3°C as rainfall activity gradually weakens.
