Jaipur: A man wanted in the 2021 murder of a police constable escaped from the Sikrai court complex in Dausa shortly after surrendering on Saturday, allegedly fearing that his bail plea would be rejected. Police have registered a fresh case and launched a manhunt to trace him.The accused, Vijay Meena, was absconding for nearly five years in the murder case of Jaipur Police constable Sanjay Gurjar. A Sikrai court issued an arrest warrant against him on July 16 after he repeatedly failed to appear before it.Police said Vijay surrendered before the court on Saturday and was to be produced before the judge. However, taking advantage of the heavy rush at the court complex, he allegedly slipped away before judicial proceedings could be completed.Following the escape, the court sent a report to Manpur police station, based on which police registered a fresh FIR. Multiple police teams have been deployed to raid his suspected hideouts.According to the FIR in the 2021 case, constable Sanjay Gurjar was riding his motorcycle towards Manpur crossroads on July 22, 2021, when he was allegedly rammed by a car driven by his nephew, Kalu alias Ravindra Gurjar, and his associates.The complaint, lodged by the constable’s son Shirshak Gurjar, alleged that after forcing Sanjay off his motorcycle, the accused assaulted him with iron pipes and other weapons, leading to his death. Vijay Meena, a resident of Karodi village, was named as one of the accused in the murder case.Police said efforts are under way to re-arrest Vijay Meena and teams are conducting raids at multiple locations.
