Vadodara: The Maharaja Sayajirao University (MSU) has projected an expenditure of Rs 498.96 crore for the financial year 2026–27, according to its budget estimates.The publicly funded university expects to receive Rs 497.71 crore through govt grants, student fees, hostel charges and other income sources, resulting in an estimated deficit of Rs 1.25 crore.As per the budget statement, the largest share of expenditure — Rs 405.48 crore — has been allocated to faculties, colleges and institutions under the university. Administrative expenses under the general administration are estimated at Rs 26.30 crore.Other allocations include Rs 12.75 crore for hostels, Rs 14.70 crore for the library and Rs 6.09 crore for the department of physical education covering games, sports and the health centre. An additional Rs 33.64 crore has been earmarked under other expenditure heads.The budget shows that spending on faculties, colleges and institutions accounts for about 81% of the total expenditure. Administrative costs make up around 5.3%, while the “others” category accounts for about 6.7% of the spending. Hostel expenses constitute nearly 2.6% of the total budget and the library about 3%, while the department of physical education accounts for roughly 1.2% of the total outlay.The expenditure projections include salary expenses.
