Vadodara: A man from the Ajwa Road area was arrested by Bapod police for allegedly raping a university student. The accused, Akash Singh Thakur, 25, had called the woman to his home on the pretext of letting her use his washing machine.Thakur, a senior from her college, had stayed in touch with the woman over social media. Police said he had invited her to his house many times, but she declined until Thursday night. “On Thursday night, she agreed to go to his house to wash her clothes in the machine as she had been unable to do her laundry for a few days due to her exams,” said police inspector P U Pastagiya, the investigating officer. After she finished washing her clothes, the woman wanted to leave. Thakur told her it was too late and that the apartment gate would be locked. He suggested she stay the night. She sat in the living room, using her phone while waiting for morning. Around 2am, Thakur asked her to come to his bedroom. When she refused, he allegedly forced her inside, raped her and filmed eight videos of the act. He allegedly threatened her, saying she would have to come whenever he asked and that he would delete one video for each time she went to him. On Friday morning, the woman returned to her paying guest accommodation and spoke to her friends. Later that afternoon, she filed a complaint at Bapod police station. Thakur was arrested and sent to judicial custody after his medical examination. Police also seized his mobile phone and other evidence.
