Vadodara: In a breakthrough against recurring two-wheeler thefts that have plagued the city, Vadodara police on Friday arrested a serial motorbike thief accused of stealing nine motorcycles from parking areas over the past few months and selling them for quick cash.Detection of crime branch (DCB) arrested Manhar Vadi after being tipped off that he was trying to sell a motorcycle near Ajabdi Mill. When police reached the spot and questioned him, Vadi failed to produce valid documents for the vehicle and later admitted to stealing it 12 days ago from Atladara.On interrogation, Vadi confessed to stealing eight other motorcycles over the past eight months. He targeted vehicles parked in areas such as Fatehgunj, Atladara, Bil Road and Chhani, especially belonging to people who commuted to nearby villages for work.Police said Vadi, a resident of Tandalja, sold the stolen motorbikes to earn quick money. Officers have so far recovered two stolen motorcycles from his possession.Vadi has a criminal record, with three cases of vehicle theft registered against him at Harni, Karelibaug and Sama police stations. Further investigation is underway to trace the remaining stolen vehicles and identify buyers.
