Vadodara: A sessions court has sentenced a 21-year-old man to rigorous life imprisonment on Wednesday for murdering his wife in Waghodia taluka nearly two years ago.The convict, Raghurvirsinh Chauhan, a resident of Waghodia, was found guilty of killing his wife, Sneha, at their residence in July 2024, just months after their marriage.According to the prosecution, frequent quarrels had erupted between the couple over Chauhan’s alleged affair with a young woman from his village. Sneha was aware of the relationship and often objected to it.“Chauhan used to show Sneha photographs of himself with the girl, which often led to arguments between them,” said police inspector Jaydeep Barot, who investigated the case while posted at Jarod police station.During one such dispute, Chauhan allegedly attacked Sneha with a knife near their house, killing her on the spot.Police said that after the murder, Chauhan attempted to mislead investigators by claiming that unidentified robbers had killed his wife. He also allegedly tried to ensure that the body was cremated quickly. However, the plan unraveled when the village sarpanch insisted that the police be informed before any last rites were conducted. Jarod police subsequently launched an investigation.“We collected blood samples from the crime scene and carried out DNA analysis to strengthen the evidence. The murder weapon was also recovered during the investigation,” Barot said.Based on the forensic evidence and other material collected during the probe, the prosecution established Chauhan’s involvement in the crime. The sessions court found him guilty of murder and on Wednesday sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment for life.
