Vadodara: In a major boost to Gujarat’s industrial and energy ecosystem, Hitachi Energy India Ltd on Friday unveiled plans to invest Rs 2,000 crore in a large transformer factory in Vadodara, reinforcing the state’s role as a key manufacturing hub in India’s evolving power grid landscape.The company held the groundbreaking ceremony for the facility in Karjan taluka in the presence of chief minister Bhupendra Patel and other dignitaries. The plant is scheduled for completion in 2028.Once operational, the factory will manufacture a substantial volume of power transformers annually, enabling faster delivery of critical grid equipment. The facility will cater to high-voltage transmission, HVDC systems, power generation, AI data centres and large-scale industrial applications.The project is expected to generate more than 1,000 direct and indirect jobs, providing a fillip to local economic development.“This investment reflects our confidence in India’s energy future and the country’s growing stature as a strategic manufacturing base. By expanding our manufacturing presence, we aim to empower local communities, create skilled jobs and deliver innovative solutions that support the country’s energy and sustainability goals,” said N Venu, managing director and CEO, Hitachi Energy India Ltd.Company officials said the Vadodara plant is planned as a LEED-certified site, with a focus on energy efficiency and reduced environmental impact.
