Prayagraj: To ease traffic congestion between Teliyarganj and Shantipuram witnessing heavy flow of traffic on Prayagraj -Lucknow highway during peak hours, the authorities of district traffic police on Sunday reviewed arrangements and roped in more manpower.The Phaphamau bridge connecting the city and trans-Ganga pocket (Phaphamu) had witnessed heavy jam for the past three days due to the UPTET paper exam along with diversion of heavy vehicles forcing traffic police authorities to review the situation.DCP (traffic) Neeraj Pandey told TOI, “Over 40,000 UPTET aspirants either moved from other districts to Prayagraj as well as Prayagraj to neighbouring districts to appear in the exams and caused a jam like situation for past three days.”He, however, added, “Heavy vehicles moving towards Varanasi from the city are also being diverted through Phaphamau bridge due to repair of Shastri bridge. As such the volume of traffic has increased manifold and causing jams on frequent intervals.”With the opening of educational institutes, the strength of vehicles plied between Phaphamu and the city has increased. After viewing heavy deployment of vehicles on week days and considering all reasons, more traffic policemen have been roped in to streamline traffic. Vehicle owners have been advised to not break the lane or it would be causing jam due to overlapping. On both sides of the bridge, additional traffic policemen have been deployed.
