Prayagraj: Taking strict measures towards checking tipsy driving and violation of traffic norms, the Pratapgarh police on Saturday night carried out a special checking drive at Kotila Akhtiyari toll plaza on Prayagraj-Lucknow highway and challaned over 50 vehicles on different charges and realised fine to the tune of Rs 3.70 lakh. Cops also arrested one truck driver under the influence of alcohol and fined up to Rs 10,000.The drive was carried out between between 8 pm and 11 pm in a joint intensive checking drive by the Pratapgarh traffic police and the Hathigawan Police.Police teams checked 523 vehicles \ drivers with the help of breath analyzers passing through the toll plaza. TCops said that two vehicles were challaned for Rs 10,000 each for using hooters, while 20 vehicles were also challaned for Rs 10,000 for using pressure horns. The police also realised Rs 1.25 lakh from 23 vehicles for violating high security plate. Two vehicles each were challaned for using dense black film.A senior cop said, “The police has appealed motorists to strictly adhere to road safety regulations. He added, “We have also urged drivers not to drive under the influence of alcohol. Similar strict action will continue to be taken in the future against those who violate traffic laws.”
