Coimbatore: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to campaign in Coimbatore on April 18 in support of candidates of the AIADMK-BJP alliance contesting in the region.AIADMK candidates are contesting in nine out of the 10 assembly constituencies in the district, while Vanathi Srinivasan is the lone BJP candidate in the Coimbatore North constituency.Similarly, union minister L Murugan is contesting from the Avinashi constituency in Tirupur district, part of which falls under Annur in Coimbatore district. During his visit, Modi will campaign in support of candidates across these 11 constituencies.A public meeting is also scheduled to be held at the CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex grounds along Avinashi Road. Preparatory work for the event, including the setting up of the stage, commenced on Sunday with a special pooja. “The Prime Minister will address the gathering at around 5pm on Saturday,” said BJP district president, J Ramesh Kumar. He added that plans for a roadshow have not been confirmed so far. Senior leaders of alliance parties and union ministers in charge of Tamil Nadu are also expected to participate in the rally.Meanwhile, on Sunday, several leaders participated in the preparatory event, including former minister and AIADMK candidate from Thondamuthur SP Velumani, BJP Coimbatore city district president J Ramesh Kumar, and AIADMK candidates Amman K Arjunan and P R G Arun Kumar, along with party functionaries.
