Bhubaneswar: Several places in the state on Tuesday received light to moderate rainfall under the influence of Monday’s cyclonic circulation over Bay of Bengal.Bhadrak town recorded the highest 98 mm rainfall during the day, said IMD rainfall report in the evening. Baripada, Jajpur and Kendrapara towns, each, recorded the next highest 36 mm rainfall, while the city recorded 3.2 mm rainfall.IMD rainfall report in the morning shows Rajnagar and Aul in Kendrapara district recorded the highest 150 mm and 136 mm rainfall, respectively, in the last 24 hours.IMD latest forecast said the rainfall activity would continue in the state till Aug 17 as a low pressure area would be expected to form over Bay of Bengal by Wednesday, under the influence of Monday’s cyclonic circulation.IMD has issued a heavy to very heavy rainfall warning in some districts during the next three days. It has issued a red warning of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall at a few places in Jagatsinghpur district on Wednesday, under the influence of the system.Similarly, on Wednesday, orange warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall would continue in 10 districts — Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Keonjhar, Kandhamal, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh and Dhenkanal. Thereafter, this warning would continue in three districts — Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur and Cuttack on Thursday. Besides, heavy rainfall with yellow warning would continue in some districts till Aug 17. On Wednesday, this warning was issued for nine districts – Balasore, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Rayagada, Gajapati and Ganjam, an IMD bulletin said.Manorama Mohanty, head of regional IMD centre, said rainfall activity under the influence of the system would decrease by Aug 18. She said the state’s monsoon period cumulative rainfall position, which stood 3% more than normal now, would likely improve further.
