Berhampur: A 26-year-old businessman in the silk city allegedly lost over Rs 6 lakh to cyber fraudsters after being lured by a fake social media advertisement offering garments at wholesale rates.Police said the victim came across an advertisement in the name of the textile on a social media platform and contacted the persons operating the account. Acting on their instructions, he made advance payments in four online transactions over the last 10 days. The accused neither supplied the garments nor refunded the money. They allegedly kept demanding more on different pretexts, police said.The victim lodged an FIR at the cyber police station here on Monday. “We have registered a case under different sections of the BNS and the Information Technology Act and launched an investigation,” said Gayatri Gochhayat, IIC of cyber police station, on Tuesday.
