Rourkela: A 44-year-old woman died on Tuesday after a truck allegedly hit a motorcycle on SH-10 near Sawmill chowk under Brahmani Tarang police station limits. Manjulata Rout of Ulsa colony under Birmitrapur police station limits in Sundargarh district, worked at a private unit in Kalunga.Police said she had taken a lift on a bike from an acquaintance. As they were heading towards Kalunga, a truck hit the bike. Both fell on the road and Rout came under the wheels of the truck and died. The bike rider escaped with minor injuries. The truck driver fled the spot, leaving the vehicle behind.Tension prevailed following the incident, leading to a traffic disruption on the highway. Brahmani Tarang police reached the spot, cleared the jam and sent the body to Rourkela Government Hospital, where it was kept in the morgue. Rout is survived by a son and a daughter. Police seized the truck and the motorcycle, and launched a search for the absconding driver.
