Aizawl: The Mizoram assembly on Thursday unanimously adopted an official resolution to declare “Ro Min Relsak Ang Che” by Rokunga as the state song.CM Lalduhoma moved the resolution during the monsoon session. However, he did not specify when or how the song would be sung or played at official events.Members across party lines supported the resolution. During the discussion, some legislators also raised concerns over the Union home ministry’s notification directing that all stanzas of the national song ‘Vande Mataram‘ be sung or played at official functions.While members did not object to the practice of singing or playing up to two stanzas, they said rendering the full song could hurt the sentiments of religious minorities because it contains references to Hindu Gods.Opposition members, particularly those from Mizo National Front (MNF) and Congress, strongly opposed the playing or singing of all the verses of ‘Vande Mataram’. They also demanded an all-party meeting or a meeting of all legislature parties to discuss the issue.
