Pune: Minister of state for urban development and transport Madhuri Misal on Friday directed Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Metro authorities to clear encroachments obstructing traffic on city roads, hampering overall vehicular movement.Misal held a joint meeting of PMC and Metro officials at the municipal headquarters to review the civic body’s ongoing and proposed projects.She said all road obstacles be removed from locations where Metro works are ongoing and unattended debris lifted. The minister said all road stretches near Metro works should be restored on priority.Misal’s instructions came against the backdrop of frequent traffic jams that road users have been facing across the city. Commuters have said the condition of roads have deteriorated especially near stretches where Metro works are underway. The road surfaces are rough and debris a huge impediment.Meanwhile, Misal also spoke about the cluster development project proposed for flood-prone areas of Ektanagari-Nimbajnagar-Vithalwadi. She told officials to expedite planning.On handling of daily garbage, Misal said there was need to implement waste segregation units in a more efficient manner, while improvement was necessary in collection and processing. The minister also discussed allotment of newly constructed shops to vendors who were temporarily displaced from Mandai area to assist Metro works. They are being relocated in the vicinity.
