Kanpur: Police arrested a 35-year-old man in an injured condition during an encounter in Etawah’s Usrahar area on Friday night for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl earlier that evening.Police said the accused allegedly lured the girl with the promise of work and took her to an orchard about 200 to 250 metres from the village, where he allegedly raped her.The family began searching for the girl when she did not return home. She was later found in a critical condition in the orchard.Police reached the spot after receiving information, sent the girl to a hospital for treatment and launched a search for the accused.Police said that while evidence was being collected at the scene, the accused opened fire on the police team. The police returned fire, injuring him in the right leg.A .315-bore country-made pistol, an empty cartridge and a live cartridge were recovered from his possession.The accused was sent to a hospital for treatment and remains in police custody.
