Jaipur: Rajasthan’s Public Health Engineering Dept (PHED) carried out one of the biggest reshuffles in its history, transferring more than 30% of its engineering cadre after the state govt reopened the transfer window.“The scale of the exercise reflects the backlog created during the period when transfers were frozen, along with a large number of request-based postings,” a dept official said.Nearly 200 of the dept’s 700 executive engineers were shifted, marking a major administrative reset in water supply management across the state.Jaipur witnessed significant changes, with five of the city’s eight divisional executive engineers being reposted. The executive engineer of the Panipench N-1 division in the North Zone was transferred, while the executive engineers of the Walled City’s N-2 and N-3 divisions were swapped. In the South Zone, the executive engineers of the Malviya Nagar and Mansarovar divisions were also moved.The restructuring also altered senior-level supervision in the capital. Jaipur currently has two additional chief engineers for its North and South zones. Under the new arrangement, Ajay Singh Rathore, additional chief engineer of the North Zone, will oversee both zones.Across the dept, 379 additional executive engineers, 44 superintending engineers and 12 additional chief engineers were also transferred. Four PHED chemists are included in the transfer orders.Officials described the reshuffle as an administrative exercise aimed at clearing the backlog of pending transfers and reorganising field responsibilities after a prolonged freeze on staff movement.
