Kanpur: A five-year-old girl allegedly fell into a 50-foot-deep dry well in Farrukhabad district’s Kayamganj Kotwali area on Thursday.According to the police, Soumya was returning from school with her elder sister and had stopped near a well to play when the incident occurred.Police said the girl stood on a slab placed over the well and tried to climb onto a raised platform, during which the slab broke, and she fell into the well.Hearing her screams, villagers rushed to the spot and alerted the police.On receiving the information, SDM Abhishek Verma and CO Rajesh Kumar Dwivedi reached the spot with a police team and launched a rescue operation. The fire brigade and a health team from the CHC also arrived.A constable descended into the well with an oxygen cylinder and rescued the girl safely. The operation lasted nearly three hours.Doctors said her condition was stable. After being administered oxygen, she was referred to Lohia Hospital for further treatment.
