Mysuru: Marking the run-up to the 80th Independence Day celebrations, the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) launched the ‘Independence Day Cleanliness Drive-2026: 80 garbage-free sites’ campaign with the clearance of a major garbage-vulnerable point (GVP) on Dawood Khan Road near Five Light Circle.The campaign aims to convert 80 identified garbage dumping spots across the city into clean, litter-free public spaces in a phased manner. The initiative seeks to improve urban sanitation, discourage indiscriminate waste disposal and encourage public participation in maintaining cleanliness.Speaking on the occasion, Mysuru City Corporation commissioner MK Savitha said the civic body would ensure continuous monitoring of all reclaimed sites to prevent fresh dumping of waste. She stressed that sustained vigilance, coupled with public cooperation, is essential to preserve the cleanliness achieved under the campaign.Appealing to citizens, resident welfare associations, voluntary organisations and other stakeholders, the Commissioner urged everyone to actively support the initiative under the slogan ‘Clean Mysuru – Our Collective Resolve’. She noted that maintaining a clean city is a shared responsibility and that community participation will play a vital role in making the campaign successful.The launch event saw the participation of office-bearers of various associations, local residents, volunteers and civic workers, who joined municipal staff in cleaning the site and spreading awareness about proper waste disposal.
