Mysuru: Former chief minister BS Yediyurappa on Friday urged the state govt to approach the Supreme Court seeking relief against the Cauvery Water Management Authority’s (CWMA) directive to release 3,500 cusecs of water daily to Tamil Nadu for 15 days.Yediyurappa, who visited Chamundi Hills on the occasion of Ashada Friday, told reporters that the govt should immediately file an appeal before the apex court. He said the state must remain committed to protecting farmers’ interests and insisted that water should not be released to TN under any circumstances.BJP state president BY Vijayendra ridiculed govt for being too consumed by infighting instead of thinking about the Cauvery water issue, which, he said, had led to the present crisis. He also accused CM DK Shivakumar of wasting time on cabinet expansion, saying he has no time to set politics aside and meet lawyers over the water dispute.Meanwhile, former minister and BJP MLC CT Ravi urged Shivakumar to take a firm decision like former CM Bangarappa, who refused to release water during such a crisis. Ravi assured support to CM and urged him not to act as Tamil Nadu’s “water man” but to protect the interests of the state as CM.Commenting on Tamil Nadu chief minister Vijay’s proposed visit to Karnataka, Ravi said dialogue is always preferable in a democracy and that Tamil Nadu should be made aware of the actual water situation in Karnataka’s reservoirs. He also pointed out that the Congress and TVK are political allies and questioned why they had failed to convince their own partners on the issue.
