JAISALMER: At least 150 sheep were found dead after an overnight attack by suspected wild animals in Raghva village of Ramgarh, a border area of Jaisalmer district, officials said Monday. The incident occurred at Derawar Singh’s Dhani, where a flock was kept inside an animal enclosure. The herder Deravar Singh discovered the carcasses in the morning, with blood-soaked sheep lying across the enclosure. Villagers said the scale of the killing suggested the involvement of more than one animal. They reported deep bite marks on the necks and bodies of the sheep. As the word spread, residents gathered at the site. Revenue officials reached the spot and prepared a damage assessment report. Ramgarh police and forest department teams were informed, and forest officials began examining pugmarks to identify the species involved. A veterinary hospital team conducted post-mortem examinations at the site. Ramgarh police station in-charge Bhutaram Vishnoi said police inspected the area and alerted the forest department. “As per preliminary probe, it appears to be an attack by feral dogs. We will get a clear assessment only after the post-mortem and the forest department probe,” the police officer said. Villagers demanded compensation for the affected family, saying the flock was primary source of livelihood.
