Mangaluru: Mangaluru city police have solved a robbery case within three days of the incident, arresting two suspects and recovering all the stolen valuables.City police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said that police apprehended the two suspects in Maroli Friday based on credible intelligence. Police recovered all the looted gold jewellery and seized the motorcycle used in the crime.The robbery took place on Aug 3 at around 1.15pm. A 76-year-old woman was alone at home when she heard someone knocking on her door. When she opened it, she found two men standing near the steps. While she was questioning them, the duo allegedly forced their way inside by pretending to look for a house to rent. They pushed the elderly woman to the ground, assaulted her and snatched a gold chain and bangle she was wearing before fleeing.The stolen jewellery weighed 24 grams and was estimated to be worth Rs 3 lakh.A case was registered at Konaje police station under sections 332, 309(6) and 3(5) of the BNS, following which a special team was formed to track down the culprits.The accused have been identified as Bala Subramanya, 49, residing near Kordabbu Temple, Matadakani, Urwa, and Shyam Kumar, 33, of Thokkottu and currently residing near Bokkapattana Church, Mannagudda. He is an auto-rickshaw owner.The commissioner said Bala Subramanya has an extensive criminal record, with six cases previously registered against him, including robbery and theft. Both the arrested individuals will be produced before the court.The operation was carried out under the leadership of Mangaluru South sub-division ACP Vijaya Kranthi, Ullal inspector Virupaksha Swamy, Konaje PSI Nagaraj and Puneet Ganokar, with the participation of police personnel Srujan Shetty, Isaq, Sunil, Shailendra and Basavanagouda.The commissioner urged citizens to exercise caution, advising residents not to blindly open doors to strangers and recommending the installation of CCTV cameras around homes, particularly when elderly women are alone.
