Gurgaon: Manesar civic body is set to install 5,000 streetlights across 20 wards under its jurisdiction at an estimated cost of Rs 7.5 crore. MCM has started the process of hiring an agency to carry out the installation work and provide cables, controlling panels and other required infrastructure. The streetlights have already been procured by the civic body, officials said.“The contractor will handle installation of the lights and procurement of infrastructure such as cables and controlling panels required for installation. They will install octagonal poles and RCC poles for the streetlights and also place lights on RCC poles already erected by DHBVN,” said an MCM official. The streetlights will be installed across areas including Sikanderpur Bhada, Nakhraula, Garhi Harsaru, Wazirpur and Manesar village. “We have also included additional locations based on requests received from several RWAs in the city,” the official said, adding that once the contract is awarded, the contractor will be given eight months to complete the project. Most areas will be covered in the first phase. If further demand arises, a second phase may be launched.During the municipal elections held in March last year, residents raised concerns about the lack of streetlights and demanded installation in dark stretches of the city. Officials said several councillors have also submitted proposals for installing streetlights in their respective wards. In March last year, urban local bodies minister Vipul Goel, during a meeting, expressed dissatisfaction over delays in the procurement and installation of streetlights and centralised control and monitoring systems. None of the municipal corporations in the state met the Jan 31 deadline set for completion of the task.
