Gurgaon: Traffic police conducted a special enforcement drive during Holi celebrations, issuing 80 challans to motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol.Traffic police said that special checkpoints were set up at multiple locations across the city to monitor vehicular movement and prevent violations during the festive rush. Breath analysers were used to identify offenders, and challans were issued to those found to be in violation under the Motor Vehicles Act. Further legal action was also taken, and driving licences of the offenders were suspended for three months in accordance with prescribed rules. Strict enforcement was necessary to deter reckless behaviour and ensure public safety during Holi celebrations, when incidents of drunk driving typically see a spike, police said.The campaign’s primary objective was to maintain road safety and regulate traffic movement in the city during festivities, they added. Authorities reiterated that drunk driving poses a serious threat not only to the driver but also to pedestrians and other commuters.Police urged residents to refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol or any intoxicating substance. Similar drives will continue to be conducted periodically, and strict action will be taken against those found violating traffic norms, cops said. The department urged residents to celebrate responsibly and cooperate with law enforcement to ensure a safe and orderly festive environment in the city.
