Madhubani: In a suspected case of honour killing, a 48-year-old man was shot dead at his house over inter-caste love marriage of his son with his neibghour’s sister at Brahmotra village under Pandaul police station area of Madhubani district on Sunday night. Subodh Mandal, belonging to a different caste, was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Pandaul SHO Mohd Nadeem said, “The killing is triggered by a dispute rooted in caste tensions. Six months ago, Subodh’s son eloped with Gautam Thakur’s sister, and married to her, sparking outrage in the girl’s family over the inter-caste relationship. On Sunday night, when the couple returned to the village, a heated verbal altercation ensued between both the families. Soon, enraged Gautam and his accomplices stormed the Subodh’s house and allegedly shot him dead.” Prior to this incident, Gautam, had also allegedly eloped with a girl of other caste, the SHO added.Nadeem further said, no FIR has been filed as of now from either side. “Police are conducting raids to nab Gautam and his associates, and further investigation into the suspected honour killing case is going on,” he added.
