Kanpur: A 32-year-old labourer was killed and his friend injured after a dumper engaged in mining allegedly rammed their motorcycle from behind near Blue World tri-section under Bithoor police station limits in Kanpur on Friday night. The dumper driver fled the spot after the accident, and police have launched a search for him using CCTV footage.The deceased was identified as Sunil Gautam alias Sone (32), a native of Sandila in Chaubepur, who worked as a labourer. His companion, Vijay, who was riding the motorcycle, sustained minor injuries in the accident.According to Vijay, the two were on their way to Mandhna to buy medicine when the incident occurred.

As they reached near the Blue World tri-section, a speeding dumper coming from behind hit their motorcycle with great force.The impact threw Sunil onto the road, leaving him critically injured, while Vijay suffered minor scratches. Passersby immediately gathered at the spot and informed the police.A govt ambulance rushed the injured to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Chaubepur, where doctors declared Sunil brought dead.Police seized the dumper and parked it at the local outpost. Efforts are underway to identify and trace the absconding driver by scanning CCTV footage from the surrounding area. Police said further legal action is being taken.
