Times News NetworkKanpur: Problems of poor sanitation, encroachment, drainage and inadequate street lighting dominated discussions at a zone-4 review meeting convened by mayor Pramila Pandey on Friday to assess development works and civic issues in municipal wards.During the meeting, corporators highlighted several problems affecting residents, including poor sanitation, encroachments on public land, clogged drains and faulty streetlights. They urged the Kanpur Municipal Corporation (KMC) to address these issues on a priority basis to improve civic amenities in their respective wards.With the holy month of Shravan set to commence in five days, the mayor directed the municipal officials to make special arrangements for the convenience of devotees visiting prominent temples across the city.She instructed the KMC staff to remove encroachments over drains and clear footpaths around Baba Anandeshwar Temple at Parmat, Baba Vankhandeshwar Temple on P-Road and other major temples to ensure smooth movement of pilgrims. The mayor also ordered officials to take strict action against those found littering in and around temple premises and directed that fines be imposed on violators.Pramila Pandey further asked the officials to ensure that streetlights and other civic facilities in the vicinity of temples remain fully functional during the Shravan period, when a large number of devotees are expected to visit the shrines.She expressed concern over reports of open slaughtering of chickens, goats and other animals near the Bakar Mandi slope and said the animal waste was allegedly being dumped into a nearby drain, creating unhygienic conditions and causing environmental concerns.The meeting concluded with directions issued to the departments concerned to expedite the resolution of civic issues raised by the corporators and ensure better sanitation, lighting and public convenience, particularly in view of the upcoming Shravan festival.
