Ahmedabad: Sector 21 police of Gandhinagar on Saturday arrested a party functionary of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in connection with a case of alleged abduction and assault of a woman accountant.The complainant, a resident of the Gota, works with a pharmaceutical firm in Sector 25 GIDC, Gandhinagar. According to the FIR, she was assigned the audit of another company linked to the firm’s management. During the audit, she reportedly detected suspicious transactions worth Rs 80-85 lakh, including payments made without supporting bills.Police said that on March 26, the woman was allegedly forced into an SUV from the company’s parking area and abducted. While in the moving vehicle, two women allegedly assaulted her by pulling her hair and hitting her repeatedly. She was also allegedly threatened with dire consequences if she disclosed details of the financial irregularities. Following the incident, the complainant contacted the company owner and informed him about the episode. The FIR states that she was allegedly pressured not to approach the police and settle the matter. However, she later filed a complaint at Sector 21 police station.Based on the complaint, police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to abduction, assault and criminal intimidation. During the investigation, the role of the AAP functionary surfaced, following which he was taken into custody.
