Thiruvananthapuram: A 42-year-old man allegedly attempted to kill his live-in partner by pouring paint thinner over her and setting her ablaze at Kaippally in Kollam on Saturday evening. Anchal Police arrested Reji, a native of Kallambalam, in connection with the incident.The victim, Lissy, a native of Edamulackal, suffered burn injuries to her face, neck and chest. She was initially taken to a private hospital in Anchal and was later shifted to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital for further treatment.According to the police, Reji and Lissy had been living together for the past three months. Reji is a painting worker, while Lissy works as a home nurse. Lissy told the police that Reji was unhappy with her going to work, and the two had an argument over it.During the quarrel, Reji allegedly poured thinner, a solvent used in paint, over Lissy and set her on fire, the police said.Reji, who had accompanied Lissy while she was being taken to the hospital, was arrested from the premises of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital. The cops said that further investigation was under way. The accused was produced before a judge and was remanded in judicial custody.
