Thiruvananthapuram: A 46-year-old man was arrested by Valiyathura police on Tuesday for allegedly attempting to murder his mother, sister and close relatives following a family dispute.The accused, identified as Tobin Jose Peter, a resident of Shanghumukham, was taken into custody in connection with a violent attack that took place around 5.30pm on Saturday. According to police, the incident stemmed from resentment after his family refused to settle an earlier case registered against him for assaulting his parents. Police said the accused forcibly entered the house where his mother and sister were staying and attacked them using a helmet and a plastic chair. Both women sustained injuries to their heads, arms and other parts of their bodies in the brutal assault. A couple, who are close relatives and eyewitnesses to the incident, were also verbally abused and physically attacked by the accused when they attempted to intervene. All the injured were rushed to a hospital and are currently undergoing treatment. Officials said the attack was carried out with clear intent to cause serious harm, leading to charges of attempted murder. The accused was formally arrested, and further legal proceedings are under way. Police are continuing their investigation into the case.
