Kanpur: A 25-year-old man drowned in the Ganga at Parmat’s Kamleshwar Ghat in Kanpur, while another was rescued after the duo allegedly ventured into deep water during a holy dip on Saturday.The deceased was identified as Pankaj, while the survivor, Anuj, 27, was also from Unnao district. The two had come for Ganga darshan and a holy dip in the river. While bathing, they reportedly moved into deep water.Local residents rescued Anuj, but Pankaj drowned.After receiving the alert, police and a team of divers reached the spot and continued the search operation.Gwaltoli police station in-charge Ravi Kumar said the search for the drowned youth was underway. The family members have been informed.The officer further said that special caution is needed while bathing at the ghats during the monsoon season due to the rise in the Ganga’s water level. “We have been urging people to avoid venturing into deep water and to bathe only at designated safe places,” he added.
