Rajkot: A 62-year-old man filed a complaint at the Malaviya Nagar police station on Thursday after his son, Vishwajitsinh Rajput (38), allegedly died by suicide at his residence on Nana Mauva Main Road in Rajkot on Feb 9.Following the father’s complaint, police registered a case of abetment of suicide against Rajput’s wife, Aarti Vaghela, and mother-in-law, Jyoti Vaghela, under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.In his complaint, Rajendrasinh stated that his son married Aarti Vaghela on April 29, 2024. Vishwajitsinh initially lived as a ‘ghar jamai’ at his wife’s parental home. “However, about four months after the wedding, Aarti and her mother began pressuring Vishwajitsinh to bring money and claim a share in his father’s property,” the complaint alleged.When he refused, they allegedly subjected him to assault and mental harassment, prompting Vishwajitsinh to return to his parents’ home.The complaint further stated that the harassment continued even after he moved out. It alleged that the mother and daughter demanded Rs 40 lakh for a divorce and threatened to frame him in false cases if he did not pay. Complaints were also allegedly filed against him at a Women’s police station and under the Atrocities Act, which his family said caused him severe mental stress.Police said a suicide note recovered from the scene reportedly blamed his wife and mother-in-law for his death.
